Suriya’s Soorarai Pottru will skip Theatrical release,will directly stream on Amazon

Suriya’s Soorarai Pottru, which was supposed to release in April, will not release in theatres. The film will directly release on Amazon Prime Video on October 30.

Suriya’s much-anticipated film, Soorarai Pottru, is all set to premiere on Amazon Prime Video from October 30 onwards. The film, directed by Sudha Kongara, was supposed to hit the screens in April. However, due to the lockdown imposed by the government, the film could not see the light of the day. The latest development is that Soorarai Pottru will have its digital premiere on October 30

The streaming rights of Soorarai Pottru have been secured by Amazon Prime for a whopping amount. With this, Soorarai Pottru becomes the third film to have a direct OTT release in the history of Tamil cinema. The first one was Ponmagal Vandhal, which featured Suriya’s wife Jyotika in the lead role.

Suriya, in a statement, said, “The moment I heard the script from Director Sudha, I was sure it has to be told and I wanted to produce this film under 2D Entertainment. Essaying Capt. Gopinath’s character came to me as a challenge, but we are very proud of our final product! I am glad that audiences across the world will be able to watch Soorarai Pottru, on Amazon Prime Video from their homes in these unprecendented times. This film is our labour of love and I am happy that it will now entertain the global audience.”

The film is jointly produced by Suriya’s 2D Entertainment and Guneet Monga’s Sikhya reported earlier, Soorarai Pottru is based on the life of Air Deccan founder GR Gopinath.The film also features Paresh Rawal, Aparna Balamurali, Jackie Shroff and Mohan Babu in significant roles. Soorarai Pottru’s technical team also includes composer GV Prakash, cinematographer Niketh Bommireddy and editor Sathish Suriya.
