Why did Kamal Hassan, Ram Charan, Mammootty and top South celebs lose their blue tick on Twitter?

The nation awoke to the strangest thing on Twitter. Top cricketers, politicians, and actors have lost their blue verified ticks on Twitter. Yes, many South celebrities, including Rajinikanth, Mammootty, Kamal Haasan, Ram Charan, and others, have lost their Twitter blue tick. Elon Musk announced on April 20 that the blue tick would be removed from individual legacy Twitter accounts.

The celebrities’ blue ticks were removed because they did not pay the subscription fees for verified status. Because the top stars did not subscribe to Twitter, they lost their verified tick. Even celebrities like Shah Rukh Khan, Virat Kohli, Yogi Adityanath, Rahul Gandhi, and others have lost their Twitter blue tick. Celebrities must now pay USD 8 per month to regain their verified status. While some have tweeted that they do not want to pay to be recognised, others have joked, ‘bye bye blue tick’.

The ‘Blue tick,’ which was previously free, was introduced in 2009 to assist users in identifying celebrities, politicians, companies, and brands, as well as genuine accounts of public interest.

Trisha Krishnan and Jayam Ravi previously lost their Twitter blue tick after changing their names. Trisha and Jayam changed their Twitter names to Kundhavai and Arunmozhi Varman from PS 2 as part of the promotion. However, this resulted in the loss of their official handle’s verified mark. Trisha revealed on Twitter that she had lost her verified badge and that “they are refusing to let us purchase it because we changed our names.” This morning, we tried it as well. Because we changed our names, it says suspicious activity.”
