Gautham Vasudev Menon, the director of many iconic action and romance films in Tamil cinema, has finally released the official trailer for Dhruva Natchathiram: Chapter One – Yuddha Kaandam, starring Chiyaan Vikram. The film, which began filming in 2016, will finally hit theatres this year on November 24th.
The actor-director recently responded to a tweet from an X (formerly Twitter) user. The user joked that she was in her second year of college when the film began filming, and that she had now been working for an MNC for three years. He read the comment and responded: “There’s been a lot of learning since then, I’ve directed and released 3 films, 4 anthology shorts, 5 music videos and developed a keen 6th sense.”
The director’s response to this seemingly simple tweet was, in fact, a response to those who had been criticising his delayed project and labelling him a worn-out filmmaker. Rather than lash out, he took the high road, explaining that he has continued to learn and grow as a filmmaker over the years by directing films, shorts, and music videos, in addition to acting. He implied that the extra time spent would only benefit his upcoming project.
The Chiyaan Vikram-starrer marks the return of the Vaaranam Aayiram director to his classic style. The classic style and aesthetics of the film are said to be heavily influenced by American films, with the protagonist likely providing voice-over narration. Fans of Menon’s previous work are eager to see his latest take on his signature filmmaking style.
